Antonio Galloni Vinous Media - 94
The 1998 Musigny Grand Cru veers toward darker fruit on the nose compared to other vintages, coming across quite broody, following in the footsteps of the 1999; scents of bilberry and autumn leaves are accompanied by a subtle marine influence that becomes accentuated with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, and quite structured though less burly than the 1996. Conservative, not flamboyant, this is a “correct” Musigny with a liberal dash of brown spices on the aftertaste. Very fine, though it could benefit from a little more flair and charm. Tasted at the Drouhin Musigny vertical in London.
