Profile
The Joh. Jos. (often referred to more simply as J-J) Prum estate only came into being in 1911, when the vineyards along the banks of the Mosel which had been tended by the Prum family since the 17th Century were divided between two grandchildren. The other portion of the estate continues under the name of SA Prum.
Johann Josef's portion is now run by Dr Manfred Prum, who took control in 1969. The Joh. Jos. Prum portfolio includes a number of vineyards, including the Sonnenuhr (sundial) vineyard on the opposite bank to the town of Wehlen. The soil comprises blue-grey slate and is steep and rugged, with the vines running around crags of bare rock in places.
Other vineyards include Graacher Himmelreich, the Badstube vineyard in Bernkastel and the other Sonnenuhr vineyard, in Zeltingen.
