Tasted ex-chateau and single blind in Southwold. There is a Burgundy-like purity on the nose with ripe cassis, fresh strawberry and blueberry aromas, intermingling with vanillary new oak that is very seductive. The palate is very well balanced. This shows so much panache and harmony with a caressing, velvety smooth finish that cloaks the mouth in dark fruit flavours. This is a superb Saint Emilion from Francois Mitjavile who seems to be on a winning streak with recent vintages. Tasted January 2012.
