Black tea, cardamom, and charred meat in the nose of Groffier's 2006 Gevrey-Chambertin are joined on the palate by welcome sweetness of ripe dark cherry and purple plum. Bright and invigorating, but with interesting meaty low-tones, this finishes with plenty of stamina; the merest trace of heat and astringency; and the promise of satisfaction over the next 3-4 years, representing a second successive favorable showing for a formerly often undistinguished bottling from the lieu dit Les Seuvrees, below Mazoyeres and the route nationale.
