Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Vaucrains has a very attractive bouquet with dark cherries and fresh strawberry notes, the oak very well integrated, extremely pure and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip, layers of red berry fruit-laced with white pepper and dried orange peel. There is a clear backbone to this wine - very structured but not masculine thanks to its smooth and harmonious texture. This is very charming and with the substance to age. Another sterling effort from Chauvenet in 2012...bon vin!
